BRICS Recognise Independent Palestine, East Jerusalem as Capital
Published by WarSignal Editorial · Last updated
BRICS leaders agreed to recognise an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital during a summit in Brazil.
The decision, reached by the five member countries, was announced by the BRICS foreign ministers. While the group agreed on the Palestinian statehood, they could not reach consensus on the status of the Gaza Strip and the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran claims fall within its and Oman’s territorial waters.
The move follows earlier diplomatic efforts by the bloc to address Middle East issues, though the unresolved points highlight ongoing disagreements within the group.
